One Direction is a British-Irish boy band composed of 5 members who began as solo candidates for The X Factor in 2010. Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne were put into a band after failing to qualify for the X Factor Boys category as suggested by Nicole Scherzinger, one of the guest judge.
The band qualified for the X Factor Groups category and finished 3rd in the competition. Their "Forever Young" song was intended to be released if One Direction win the competition but leaked onto the internet after the final.
"What Makes You Beautiful" was their debut single, released in September 2011 followed by "Gotta Be You" in November 2011. One Direction was also the first UK group in history to debut at No.1 with their first album titled, "Up All Night" which was released in Nov. 2011.

Niall James Horan

Louis already appeared in several shows like "Fat Friends" with his sisters when the twins are still babies, "If I Had You" which is an ITV1 drama, "Waterloo Road" where he had a small part and in several musical productions at his school (Hall Cross School).

He came back in 2010 X Factor's 7th series, exactly after 2 years. He sung "Cry Me a River", received a standing ovation but rejected at boot camp after singing "Stop Crying Your Heart Out ", then put into One Direction.
